Best time: migratory vs resident tarpon

Key West has two tarpon stories. Migratory fish push through in spring and early summer — the classic "silver king" run when big schools roll and the flats feel electric. Peak windows often land from roughly April through June, with May a favorite for many anglers, though wind, water clarity, and the moon can move the needle week to week.

Resident fish stick around longer. They may not show in the same dense packs as the migration, but they give you real shots in shoulder months when the crowds thin and the water is still fishable. Winter can produce on warmer days; late summer and early fall reward patience when you are willing to fish smart around storms and heat. Flats vs channels: where we actually fish

Flats fishing for tarpon is about seeing them before they see you.
